Music to Draw to

Teachers often ask about what music to play for kids to draw to. Actually the list is endless - all music tells a story! However, there are some pieces where the composer has actually specified the story and these are the best ones to start with. Here is a sample:

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908): Scheherazade, Op.35.
Based upon four of the tales from The Nights: "The Sea and Sinbad's Ship", "The Kalendar Prince", "The Young Prince and The Young Princess", and "Festival at Baghdad."

Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) : Overture to William Tell
The overture, which lasts for approximately 12 minutes, paints a musical picture of life in the Swiss Alps, and is in Four parts:Prelude, Dawn, Storm, Ranz des Vaches (call to the cows), Finale, March Of The Swiss Soldiers.

Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741): La Tempesta di Mare (The storm at sea)
